Snežnik Castle
The Snežnik Castle complex is set in a beautiful natural environment on the edge of the mighty Snežnik forest. The image of the white castle with a touch of fairytale charm and a noble past, quietly reflected in the spring water of the pond, never fails to captivate us.
Snežnik Castle was once a fortified outpost, later the centre of an extensive estate and an eminent hunting manor; today, it is a unique museum, one of only two Slovenian castles with preserved authentic interiors. It is surrounded by a large park that remains attractive in all seasons with its centuries-old avenues, clearings, walking paths, and water features. The Snežnik Castle complex is a cultural monument of national importance.
Today, Snežnik Castle shines in its beauty once again, hosting numerous cultural events and wedding ceremonies in addition to its museum collection.
Catering and accommodation are available to visitors in the former outbuildings, now fully renovated castle outhouses (pristave).
The curious can visit the Hunting Collection and Dormouse Museum in the outhouses, set off alone or with a guide to explore the nature educational trail, or take a stroll through the castle park.
Snežnik Castle is also an excellent starting point for shorter or longer hikes to Luizenstein, around the Obrh, along the Loška dolina Heritage Trail, or along marked mountain paths towards Mašun and Snežnik.
