Hike through Loška dolina

A hike along the Loška dolina Heritage Trail combines hiking with learning about the unique natural and cultural heritage that has been shaped over centuries in the valley amidst the Notranjska forests. The circular route connects the most important sights, constantly opening up new views of the landscape and surprising visitors with the hospitality of the locals.

Two routes are available: a longer, 21 km trail, which requires approximately 6 hours of walking, and a shorter, 11 km trail, which can be completed in just over three hours. Both trails are easy and mostly flat, suitable for hikers of all ages. The hike leads us along the edge of the Loško polje karst field and along field and forest paths (partly also along roads), offering an insight into the picturesque villages, nature, and cultural heritage of Loška dolina. Hikers can set off on the journey independently along the marked Loška dolina Heritage Trail, or join a local tourist guide.

Light hiking footwear and weather-appropriate sportswear are recommended. The hike takes place in all weather conditions, and participation is at one’s own risk. Registration is possible on the day of the hike at the starting point.

The hike is traditionally organised every year on the Sunday before the Loška dolina Municipality holiday, which is 19 October, and is an opportunity for active time in nature, learning about cultural heritage, and socialising.
