Dormouse Night

‘Dormouse hunting is an integral part of the identity and culture of these places, no less than the ostrnice (traditional hay drying racks), karst phenomena, the coexistence of man with large game, and the magnificent natural and cultural heritage,’ wrote Dr Janez Šumrada in the introduction to the book Dormouse Heritage of Loška dolina.  When the rich ethnological heritage of dormouse hunting is combined with socialising and experience, a unique event is born – Dormouse Night.

Dormouse Night is a traditional outdoor ethnological event that brings the ancient tradition of dormouse hunting closer to visitors in an attractive and experiential way. Alongside a varied accompanying programme, it offers a unique dormouse hunting experience: storytelling, learning about the life of dormice, and the special atmosphere of the night forest illuminated by fire. The event invites you to socialise, discover local customs, and experience authentic contact with the heritage of Notranjska.
